JOB GOAL:

To help students learn information and research skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Formulate short and long-range goals and propose implementation and evaluation to achieve them.
  2. Utilize the district’s adopted selection policy.
  3. Work within the channels and structure of the school and district administration to maintain communication.
  4. Establish a public relations program that will effectively inform both school and community of media program activities.
  5. Foster an atmosphere that encourages student and faculty usage.
  6. Assist in the selection of, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate building media support personnel as well as student assistants and volunteers.
  7. Adopt an approved, comprehensive, and efficient system of cataloging and classifying all media.
  8. Maintain professional resources for teachers, inform them about new materials, and involve them in purchasing decisions.
  9. Organize and maintain records of media acquisitions, circulation, etc., for inventory, maintenance and certification purposes.
  10. Establish a plan for acquisition and replacement of audiovisual hardware and software.
  11. Execute a maintenance program for material and equipment.
  12. Organize the storage and handling of AV materials for convenience, availability and effective use.
  13. Provide for the use, design, and production of materials used with the media equipment unique to the library/media center.
  14. Assist teachers, students and staff in the production of supplementary teaching/learning materials.
  15. Investigate and evaluate products, services and equipment available for purchase or lease/rental.
  16. Maintain a collection of publisher and AV vendor catalogs in the media center.
  17. Coordinate daily operation of the media center.
  18. Prepare an annual budget for the media center and submit it to the Library Coordinator.
  19. Participate in curriculum planning.
  20. Introduce and publicize media, and prepare bibliographies, lists and indexes.
  21. Be informed and knowledgeable about school philosophy, curriculum instruction, and total educational programs.
  22. Provide orientation of staff and students through in-service.
  23. Provide instruction in the use of the library media center and its resources to individuals, classes and teachers.
  24. Provide reading guidance.
  25. Convey enthusiasm for books and reading through specific activities and individual guidance promoting the development of reading skills and appreciation.
  26. Keep abreast of developments in both library/information science and policies/regulation changes applicable to position.
  27. Keep educationally and professionally informed by participating in professional organizations, coursework, workshops, conferences, and by the reading of professional literature.
  28. Work to coordinate resources and activities with area libraries.
  29. Attend faculty meetings and other appropriate staff meetings.
  30. Provide necessary instruction and encourage the use of telecommunication systems and services, computer systems, instructional design, basic advanced forms of media production and use, administration of hardware and software systems, and facility design for proper media use
  31. Assume such other duties as assigned by supervisory or administrative personnel.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary, work day, and year to be established by the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
