JOB TITLE: 

School Nurse

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

REPORTS TO:

Nursing Coordinator and Director of Student Services

 

JOB GOAL:

Work with school staff, community, state, and federal agencies in order to ensure that all students remain in the best state of health possible to allow them to achieve the maximum benefit from an educational environment.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plans, organizes and coordinates a system for illness, first aid and emergency care.
  2. Administer first aid and care to students and staff as directed in written policies and procedures. 
  3. Take and record vital signs and other symptoms presented by the students and staff.
  4. Enter and maintain student and staff health records.
  5. Maintain daily log for health room visits.
  6. Make referrals to other health care providers as necessary (referrals are recommended to parents in non emergency cases).
  7. Administer medication to students in accordance with district policy.
  8. Serve as a resource to staff and students on health related issues.
  9. Develop and implement screening programs in the areas of height, weight, and vision according to the district schedule, or when requested for students being considered for special education.
  10. Report results of screenings to parents and provide referrals of students identified by screening as needing further medical or other care.
  11. Identifies students with special needs and assures written health and emergency care action plans, if indicated. 
  12. Complete and submit all required local, state, and federal reports.
  13. Assume such other duties as assigned by supervisor or administrative personnel.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary, work day, and year to be established by the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
