JOB TITLE:

Head Football Coach

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a valid certificate to teach in Missouri Public Schools, four-year degree or 60 hours 

 

REPORTS TO:

Athletic Director or person designated by Board of Education

 

JOB GOAL:

To provide every student enrolled at Ste. Genevieve R-II School District an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the sport, and the principles of fair play.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Advise athletes of training rules and expectations with consequences in writing at onset of season.
  2. Develop sound public relations.  Cooperate with newspapers and media.    
  3. Support other coaches and athletes during their seasons.
  4. Work cooperatively with the Athletic Director.
  5. Provide leadership and attitude that produces positive efforts by participants.
  6. Utilize current technology along with providing quality instruction on coaching techniques.
  7. Use practice time effectively.
  8. Deal consistently with disciplinary problems in the game/practice setting.
  9. Manage student behavior in a constructive manner.
  10. Demonstrate an understanding of the sport, including the knowledge, skills, strategies, and attitudes associated with this particular sport.
  11. Select appropriate teaching aids/drills and have them ready to use.
  12. Use all possible ethical means of motivation.
  13. Utilize videotape for instructional improvement.
  14. Scout opponents and prepare the team using this tool.
  15. Demonstrate effective organizational skills.
  16. Keep the Athletic Director informed of practice/game facilities.
  17. Maintain inventory of equipment/supplies.
  18. Store and maintain equipment.
  19. Secure facility after practice/game.
  20. Maintain office area.
  21. Provide proper supervision and security of the locker room, weight room and practice areas.
  22. Develop basic understanding of athletic injury prevention/rehabilitation/care.
  23. Participate in coaching clinics or other activities to improve coaching performance.
  24. Conduct an end of school year meeting with players who plan to participate next school year.
  25. Coordinate summer weightlifting schedule with coaches and players.
  26. Create a summer calendar for players with all pertinent information for summer months.
  27. Gather needed paperwork for players (physical papers, parental permission, health forms, schedules, calendars, etc.) and hand out to prospects.
  28. Make and keep an attendance roster posted where players can track their summer weight room attendance.
  29. Oversee summer weight room workouts/attendance.
  30. Plan summer camp and coordinate this with coaches.
  31. Periodic check (weekly/daily) of game field and practice field conditions.
  32. Coordinate needed seeding, fertilizing and watering of natural surfaces of fields.
  33. Develop a practice schedule for preseason.
  34. Develop and post a daily practice schedule for each practice for both coaches and players.  
  35. Attend mandatory rules meetings set up by MSHSAA.
  36. Maintain attendance record of players for practices.
  37. Keep records of playing time for lettering criteria and as dictated by MSHSAA.
  38. Maintain a record of individual player equipment.
  39. Set up meetings for assistant coaches as needed.
  40. Designate responsibilities of assistant coaches.
  41. Coordinate bus times for away games with the Athletic Director.
  42. Keep ongoing game statistics for players.
  43. Attend post season meetings regarding player honors (All Conference, All Region/District, and All State).
  44. Conduct a preseason program with radio stations.
  45. Conduct pre-game and post-game interviews with the media as requested.
  46. Complete paperwork involving post season play as requested by MSHSAA.
  47. Coordinate breaking down films with assistant coaches.
  48. Provide scouts with proper paperwork.
  49. Set up film exchanges with opponents and then secure those film exchanges with the opponents.
  50. Create a master schedule for opponents.
  51. Create an incentive/award system for players who do outstanding performances during contests (Greeners helmet stickers).
  52. Select and purchase game equipment for coaches for professionalism.
  53. Maintain a football records book.
  54. Advise players and set up a selection/voting procedure for team captains.
  55. Display self-control and poise at all times.
  56. Develop respect by example in appearance, manner, behavior, language, and conduct during athletic contests.
  57. Cooperate with the Athletic Director in regards to submitting participation and eligibility list, sports fees, medical forms, academic awards, season end reports, and other information relative to coaching assignment.
  58. File with the Athletic Director a record of a physical examination and a parental permission slip for each squad member prior to that squad member’s first practice.
  59. Monitor student/athletes grades and provide assistance to those who require help in maintaining grades.
  60. Provide direction for the program.
  61. Develop short and long range goals for the program.
  62. Understand and follow rules and regulations set forth by the Ste. Genevieve School District and MSHSAA.
  63. Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  

Salary, work day, and year to be established by the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education’s policy on Evaluation of Certificated Personnel.
