JOB TITLE:
Head Football Coach
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold a valid certificate to teach in Missouri Public Schools, four-year degree or 60 hours
REPORTS TO:
Athletic Director or person designated by Board of Education
JOB GOAL:
To provide every student enrolled at Ste. Genevieve R-II School District an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the sport, and the principles of fair play.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advise athletes of training rules and expectations with consequences in writing at onset of season.
- Develop sound public relations. Cooperate with newspapers and media.
- Support other coaches and athletes during their seasons.
- Work cooperatively with the Athletic Director.
- Provide leadership and attitude that produces positive efforts by participants.
- Utilize current technology along with providing quality instruction on coaching techniques.
- Use practice time effectively.
- Deal consistently with disciplinary problems in the game/practice setting.
- Manage student behavior in a constructive manner.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the sport, including the knowledge, skills, strategies, and attitudes associated with this particular sport.
- Select appropriate teaching aids/drills and have them ready to use.
- Use all possible ethical means of motivation.
- Utilize videotape for instructional improvement.
- Scout opponents and prepare the team using this tool.
- Demonstrate effective organizational skills.
- Keep the Athletic Director informed of practice/game facilities.
- Maintain inventory of equipment/supplies.
- Store and maintain equipment.
- Secure facility after practice/game.
- Maintain office area.
- Provide proper supervision and security of the locker room, weight room and practice areas.
- Develop basic understanding of athletic injury prevention/rehabilitation/care.
- Participate in coaching clinics or other activities to improve coaching performance.
- Conduct an end of school year meeting with players who plan to participate next school year.
- Coordinate summer weightlifting schedule with coaches and players.
- Create a summer calendar for players with all pertinent information for summer months.
- Gather needed paperwork for players (physical papers, parental permission, health forms, schedules, calendars, etc.) and hand out to prospects.
- Make and keep an attendance roster posted where players can track their summer weight room attendance.
- Oversee summer weight room workouts/attendance.
- Plan summer camp and coordinate this with coaches.
- Periodic check (weekly/daily) of game field and practice field conditions.
- Coordinate needed seeding, fertilizing and watering of natural surfaces of fields.
- Develop a practice schedule for preseason.
- Develop and post a daily practice schedule for each practice for both coaches and players.
- Attend mandatory rules meetings set up by MSHSAA.
- Maintain attendance record of players for practices.
- Keep records of playing time for lettering criteria and as dictated by MSHSAA.
- Maintain a record of individual player equipment.
- Set up meetings for assistant coaches as needed.
- Designate responsibilities of assistant coaches.
- Coordinate bus times for away games with the Athletic Director.
- Keep ongoing game statistics for players.
- Attend post season meetings regarding player honors (All Conference, All Region/District, and All State).
- Conduct a preseason program with radio stations.
- Conduct pre-game and post-game interviews with the media as requested.
- Complete paperwork involving post season play as requested by MSHSAA.
- Coordinate breaking down films with assistant coaches.
- Provide scouts with proper paperwork.
- Set up film exchanges with opponents and then secure those film exchanges with the opponents.
- Create a master schedule for opponents.
- Create an incentive/award system for players who do outstanding performances during contests (Greeners helmet stickers).
- Select and purchase game equipment for coaches for professionalism.
- Maintain a football records book.
- Advise players and set up a selection/voting procedure for team captains.
- Display self-control and poise at all times.
- Develop respect by example in appearance, manner, behavior, language, and conduct during athletic contests.
- Cooperate with the Athletic Director in regards to submitting participation and eligibility list, sports fees, medical forms, academic awards, season end reports, and other information relative to coaching assignment.
- File with the Athletic Director a record of a physical examination and a parental permission slip for each squad member prior to that squad member’s first practice.
- Monitor student/athletes grades and provide assistance to those who require help in maintaining grades.
- Provide direction for the program.
- Develop short and long range goals for the program.
- Understand and follow rules and regulations set forth by the Ste. Genevieve School District and MSHSAA.
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary, work day, and year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education’s policy on Evaluation of Certificated Personnel. |
