Food Services - Head Cook

SUPERVISION DUTIES:
Food Service Workers
JOB GOAL:
To serve attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and warmth.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Make recommendations to the Director of Food Services pertaining to the qualifications, employment, and welfare of all food service personnel.
- Supervise and instruct kitchen personnel in the safe, proper, and efficient use of all kitchen equipment.
- Maintain the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen and cooperate with the Board of Health.
- Check food shipments into the school, signing invoices only after each order has been verified.
- Determine the quantities of each food to be prepared daily.
- Prepare food according to a planned menu and tested uniform recipes and determine if the finished product is of best quality both in flavor and appearance before it is served.
- Maintain all required records.
- Attend annual seminars sponsored by the Missouri School Food Services Association and hold membership in Mineral Area School Food Service Association.
- Assist the Director of Food Services in overseeing the storeroom and the maintaining of a correct monthly inventory.
- Assist the Director of Food Services in ordering all necessary supplies.
- Report immediately to supervisor any problem or accident occurring in the kitchen or the cafeteria premises.
- Confer with the supervisor regarding any personnel problems.
- Make arrangements for necessary substitute workers as directed.
- Report to supervisor any faulty or inferior quality food which is received.
- Supervise the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment, and the washing and sterilizing of all dishes, silverware, and utensils.
- Assume such other duties as assigned by supervisor or administrative personnel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:
- Frequently walk short distances.
- Continuously stand.
- Frequently bend or twist at the neck and torso.
- Continuously grip.
- Occasionally reach, stoop, kneel and crouch.
- Frequently lift ten pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in temperatures that exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Work in an environment that is frequently quite loud and may require employees to raise voices to be heard.
- There is a greater than average risk of minor burns and cuts.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary, work day, and year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
