JOB TITLE:
Parents as Teachers Educator
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrate ability to work with young children and their parents.
- Must hold one of the following:
- Certification in Early Childhood or related field;
- Associate degree in Early Childhood or other related fields;
- Sixty college hours and two years of successful supervised experience in a program working with young children and their parents; or
- Five years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents.

Early Childhood Coordinator and Director of Student Services
JOB GOAL:
To provide parents of children from before birth to age 5, the information and support they need to give their children the best possible start in life.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Successfully complete the requirements of the Parents as Teachers Training Institute.
- Recruit parents of infants and pre-school children and advertise screening opportunities.
- Observe and play with the child to obtain information relating to the child's mental and physical development. Evaluate the child's responses to determine levels of child's physical and mental development.
- Confer with parents and provide timely information on child's development. Determine parent's ability to comprehend information and observe his/her own child. Develop individual plans for parents to implement at home. Increase parent confidence in child-rearing activities by providing in-home training.
- Instruct parents individually or in groups.
- Organize groups of parents in similar situations.
- Consult and coordinate plans with other professionals.
- Develop learning activities for parents and children.
- Facilitate screening efforts for children from birth to kindergarten age to identify possible delays, physical problems, or advanced abilities. Refer to outside agencies children with developmental problems as needed.
- Assist with the kindergarten screening program.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records.
- Assume such other duties as assigned by supervisor or administrative personnel.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary, work day, and year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education of Education's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel. |
